February 27th - “Understanding Zionism”

Dr. Melmed presented a historical perspective on the origins of Zionism to today. This presentation focused on the meaning of Zionism as the national liberation movement of the Jewish people.  The lecture centered to dispel misinterpretations and misrepresentations of the word Zionism as well as to clarify the history and meaning of Zion to the Jewish people.

 


      


March 19th – “Understanding Refugee Issues in Israel”  

Dr. Melmed delivered a perspective of the Palestinian and Jewish refugee issues affecting Israel in the Middle East. The lecture gave a brief overview of Palestinian and Jewish refugees in the region, providing a historical review along with the presentation of the film “The Forgotten Refugees”, about the multitudes of Mizrachi "Eastern" Jews who fled persecution from Arab/Muslim countries leading them to the State of Israel.
